Join us for our last After-Hours teen program before the summer! We will make mocktails and drink while painting! We have a great artist, Fleur Spolidor, who will be teaching us how to paint our masterpieces. No experience or artistic talent necessary!!

Join us to explore a fusion of paper and thread, creating a set of postcards that come together as a charming collection bound by a ring.
First, we will craft individual postcards following a theme, whether flowers, fruit, or your favorite topic. Then, we will elevate each postcard by adding textures and shapes using the art of paper embroidery. Finally, we will put them together with a book binder ring to stay together as an original art collection. 
Feel free to bring photos/prints and/or drawings of your preference to be embroidered or craft your own during the class.

About Broken Verses
Fourteen years ago, famous Pakistani activist Samina Akram disappeared. Two years earlier, her lover, Pakistan's greatest poet, was beaten to death by government thugs. In present-day Karachi, her daughter Aasmaani has just discovered a letter in the couple's private code—a letter that could only have been written recently. Aasmaani is thirty, single, drifting from job to job. Always left behind whenever Samina followed the Poet into exile, she had assumed that her mother's disappearance was simply another abandonment. Meet author Sarah Cart and the inspiration for her memoir, her husband Ben. 
Sarah’s memoir, ON MY WAY BACK TO YOU, One Couple’s Journey through Catastrophic Illness to Healing and Hope (Forefront Books; April 2, 2024), is a miraculous story of love and triumph over life-threatening illness. “My husband, Ben, just past his mid-fifties, was irrepressibly healthy and energetic until, suddenly, he wasn’t.” Two weeks after the COVID-19 lockdown, they realized Ben’s body was shutting down and his only hope was to get on the list and get that heart transplant now—in the midst of a pandemic.
And that wasn’t even half of what was to come.
On My Way Back To You is far more than a chronicle of Ben’s illness. It’s about love, resiliency, and the power of community: “When Ben was in the hospital, I felt all the people who’d ever loved him shining their light from the far reaches of the universe each time I begged them to do so,” Cart writes.
The memoir also provides a roadmap through some of life’s greatest challenges and the reassurance that two people can use the power of love, determination, and endless patience to find their way back to each other.

In his latest book, Brought Forth on this Continent: Abraham Lincoln and American Immigration, Harold Holzer charts Lincoln's political career through the lens of immigration, from his role as a member of an increasingly nativist political party to his evolution into an immigration champion, a progression that would come at the same time as he refined his views on abolition and Black citizenship. Doris Kearns Goodwin called it “deeply researched and beautifully written.” Mr. Holzer will be in conversation with Harrison Librarian Bob Huerster. A Q&amp;A and book signing will follow the presentation. The Village Bookstore of Pleasantville, NY, will be on site selling copies of the book during the event. Registration is recommended to reserve a seat.
Harold Holzer, winner of The 2015 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize, is one of the country's leading authorities on Lincoln and the Civil War era. A prolific writer and lecturer, and frequent guest on television, Holzer served for 10 years as co-chair of the U.S. Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, appointed by President Clinton. President Bush awarded Holzer the National Humanities Medal in 2008. He is now chairman of The Lincoln Forum and Director of Roosevelt House at Hunter College. Harold and his wife lived in neighboring Rye for 42 years.
