Report: Challenger Astorino Far Behind Incumbent Cuomo in Fundraising

Astorino reportedly began his campaign for governor with a war chest of about $1 million.

Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino is badly losing the fundraising battle in the New York governor's race to Democratic incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to the New York Post.

Reporter Fredric U. Dicker writes that Astorino raised just $2.4 million in the first six of 2014, mostly from small donors, compared to the $33 million Cuomo already had in his war chest in January.

Astorino hopes to raise at least $15 million in the fight against Cuomo, which the Post believes will be a difficult goal for Astorino to meet.

Additionally, Cuomo had a commanding 35-point lead in the most recent poll by the Wall Street Journal/WNBC-TV/Marist College.
