I write because it feeds my soul.

Ten years ago, I made the decision to sell my business and become a stay at home mom. Shortly after, I questioned the sanity of that decision, and began writing as a way to connect with anyone that would listen. After deliberating between stand up comedy and becoming a humorist, I submitted my writing to various newspapers. Many rejections later, I was hired to do a weekly column for The New Haven Register.

My name is Wendy McGee. Seven years later, I am still writing and looking for anyone who will listen. Life With Wendy has provided the opportunity for me to reach out to other women as well as a chance to laugh at my own imperfections. The life that I lead and write about resonates with my followers due to its honesty, likeability, and humor. I am a part of them. They are a part of me. As a result of its honest nature, it has attracted thousands of readers and gained popularity.

Through the years, I talked about my feelings of inadequacy as a parent of four who are now 16, 15, 12, and 7. I wrote about my husband’s visit to the chiropractor after I demanded the 10ft Christmas tree. I covered rectal thermometers, men and their ability to retain useless information, and how I reorganized my husband’s cd collection when we were first married in an attempt to surprise him (and boy did I surprise him.) I shared funny stories about what goes on during a girl’s weekend, the logistics of giving your first birds and the bees speech, and how I buried my tears in my infant clothing when it came time to give them away.

Dubbed as the imperfect perfectionist, my column at Women’s Forum will be aimed at teaching people to give themselves room for the imperfections in their lives. You no longer have to cook a perfect roast, or host a spectacular dinner party with favors. You just have to be you. It isn’t about doing more; it is about doing less so we can all find the peace we have searched so desperately to find.
