Alex Philippidis is a 25-year Westchester news veteran who continues to cover the county while reporting on molecular biology research institutions worldwide for GenomeWeb Daily News, a twice-daily e-mail "wire" published by GenomeWeb L.L.C. of New York City.

At GenomeWeb, Alex previously served as editor of BioRegion News, an online weekly newsletter focusing on life sciences economic development. Alex joined GenomeWeb in 2007 from the Westchester County Business Journal in White Plains, where he worked for 13 years, the last seven as editor-in-chief.

Alex previously worked at the military weekly Soundings of Norfolk, Va., as well as at Gannett Suburban Newspapers (now The Journal News) in White Plains, and the weekly North County News in Yorktown Heights. Alex has been interviewed and quoted by BBC News, the Triad Business Journal in Greensboro, N.C., The New York Times, WCBS-TV in New York, News 12 Westchester, Regional News Network in Rye Brook, and WVOX radio in New Rochelle.

From 2001 to 2003, he co-hosted &#34;White Plains Week,&#34; a news discussion show aired twice weekly on White Plains Public Access Cable.<br><br>Alex is a past Secretary of the Board of Directors of Kids X-Press of White Plains, and chairs KXP&#39;s Editorial Committee. For three years until August 2010, he was a member of the Marketing and Public Relations Committee of Westchester Arc, a Hawthorne, N.Y., nonprofit group focusing on people with developmental disabilities.

Previously Alex served as secretary of the Board of Directors for The Volunteer Center of Westchester in Tarrytown, N.Y.; and as a member of Pace University&#39;s Dyson College Alumni Board; the advisory board for Lighthouse International-Hudson Valley Region; and the boards of The Food Bank for Westchester and the Arthritis Foundation&#39;s Hudson Valley Branch.

He lives in White Plains with his wife Karen and son Philip.
