Founded by Governor Nelson Rockefeller in the 1960s as "the cultural gem" of SUNY, today Purchase College is world renowned for its arts programs as well as liberal arts and sciences. The campus was designed by prestigious architect Edward Larrabee Barnes whose idea was to design "a city within the country." Today there are 25 buildings on 500 acres. One of the most prominent is the Neuberger Museum of Art which contains important American Masters and is open to the public.
