Get Your Shot: Flu Cases Should Increase Soon

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state departments of health are telling people to get shots now.

New York state is seeing minimal flu activity at the moment, according to the Centers for Disease Control. 

But flu season is coming. During the 2012–13 influenza season, influenza activity increased through November and December before peaking in late December nationwide, the CDC said.

The New York state Health Department recommends all people 6 months and older receive an influenza vaccination each year.

Depending on vaccine type available to you, 2013-14 vaccine will protect against either three or four different influenza viruses.

The Rockland County Health Department has flu vaccine clinics scheduled for 1-4 p.m. today and on Nov. 1, 8 and 15.

The Putnam County Health Department has online registration for its Nov. 12 free flu vaccine clinic.
