Club Dennis at Riis Park; Alive N' Kickin' to Rock the West Harrison Village Green

  • The Child Abuse Prevention Center is holding one hour orientation sessions today for those interested in exploring volunteer opportunities. Orientation is a prelude to the center’s intensive 12-hour training offered in September. Learn about CAPC's 90 percent success record of working with Westchester County families.   • There will be road closures on the Bronx River Parkway next week from White Plains to Yonkers. Closures are scheduled to take place on the Bronx River Parkway this week at midday and at night so that the construction crews can relocate temporary concrete median barriers and adjust travel lane widths while they work on the west abutment footing and retaining wall. The night time closures will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 12 and 13 in both northbound and southbound directions from the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers to the Westchester County Center (Exit 22) in White Plains. The midday closures will affect northbound traffic on Aug. 13 and 14 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Check here for more information on the closures.

  • WVOX radio Jock Dennis Nardone returns Riis Park Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The ultimate dance party in the park, "Club Dennis" features a multitude of performers, a magic show, face painting, snack pacs for the kids, and more! A family friendly event, Dennis puts on an incredible show for everyone. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the best entertainment around on a summers eve.

  • The music group Alive N’ Kickin is scheduled to perform Thursday at the West Harrison Village Green Wednesday at 7 p.m. Alive N’ Kick formed in Brooklyn in 1968. The band is best known for the hit single “Tighter, Tighter,” which reached #7 in the US Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1970.

  • The Greenburgh Health Center is hosting its 13th Annual Community Health Fair Friday at 10 a.m. in observance of National Health Center Week. Health screenings for blood pressure, height, weight, pregnancy, glucose, HIV, vision, emergency contraception, nutrition, prostate, breast, colorectal and cervical cancer and family planning will be available free of charge. Representatives from various agencies, service organizations, businesses, health representatives, and service and social programs will be on site providing free information and literature. Family fun includes children's rides, giveaways, free food and refreshments and live entertainment.  Greenburgh Health Center is located at 295 Knollwood Rd. White Plains.
