Who Runs Westchester's Food Pantries?

Most pantries are operated by churches and non-profits.

The recent on petit larceny charges for allegedly stealing food and other items from the food pantry operated by the town sent shockwaves through the community.

Why would anyone take food and clothing meant for the neediest and most vulnerable residents?

The Food Bank for Westchester assists the Harrison Food Pantry, as well as the other charitable pantries in the region when necessary. A lot of food and other supplies, however, come from local donations within each community.

The Harrison pantry accepts donations from the public and local organizations. None of the other food pantries in Westchester County are operated by a municipality, according to the Food Bank for Westchester, which supplies much of the food for approximately 200 hunger-relief agencies in the county.

There are similar services, however, such as senior nutrition programs that serve hot meals or deliver food, run by other municipalities.

Of the dozens of other food pantries in the county, all are run by churches and non-profits that accept donations of food and money from the public and community organizations. Some pantries also receive a small amount of government funding.

Below is a list of just some of the food pantries in the county, along with contact information and how to donate. This list is not exhaustive. Mount Vernon and Yonkers, for example, both have several food pantries. For information about food pantries in those cities and other Westchester locales not listed here, visit the Food Bank for Westchester website.
