Purchase Resident Walks For Charity

Marist freshman and Purchase resident Melina Parrello took part in her school's hunger month to raise money for the Hudson Valley's hungry.

Joining about 860 other participants, Melina Parrello participated in an hour-long walk for the hungry at Marist College late last month.

Parrello, who is from Purchase, took part in the hour-long run this November. The event was part of Marist's hunger month, where students collected donations and joined in charitable activities, raising about $4,000 for people in need.

"There is a two-fold purpose to Hunger Month," said Brother Frank Kelly, director of Campus Ministry at Marist. "First is awareness that hunger does not just exist in far-flung places across the globe. There is hunger in our own county and country."
