Gold Level Girl Scouts Leave Their Mark

Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont honors locals Gabriella Gizzo and Amanda Pugliese after both received the Girl Scout gold award.

A pair of local girl scouts have reached one of the highest levels of achievement within the organization.

Recent high school graduates Gabriella Gizzo and Amanda Pugliese, both members of Troop 1881 in Harrison, recently received the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the top achievement for a scout. Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont honored both young women on Aug. 2.

Pugliese, who graduated this spring from Good Counsel High School in White Plains, recently completed a project with Gilda's Club of Westchester where she coordinated two events that raised money for the charity. The scout coordinated a dress down day and bake sale with proceeds going to charity and the event has been organized so that it can continue in future years.

Gizzo recently graduated from Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale and received the award after working with White Plains students in grades 3 to 5. A scout since Kindergarten, Gizzo completed her work with the Girl Scouts by recruiting a group of volunteers to help execute a learning program she developed that the school can re-use in the future.

Both women will attend Loyola University in the fall.
