You Choose: Female Athlete of the Year

A list of our five nominees female athlete of the year from the graduating class of 2010 of Harrison High School. You choose the winner!

Last week the Harrison High School athletic department held their annual awards banquet. Several student athletes received a plethora of awards to credit them for their hard work and effort of the past season and for their careers.

After speaking to several coaches and athletes we have determined that below are the best five senior female athletes and it is up to you to decide who is the best of the best. Click here to vote.

GiGi LoDolce

LoDolce was the catcher for the school's softball team and in the 2010 season was named to the all-section and all-league teams. LoDolce hit in the middle of the lineup all season and her poise and discipline at the plate helped her almost always put the ball in play. She was also given the Westchester Umpires Association Sportsmanship Award. LoDolce has been the team's starting catcher since she was an eighth grader and next year she will be playing division two softball at New Haven.

Ashley Marino

Marino is one of only ten three-sport athletes in Harrison's senior class. She was on the school's volleyball and bowling team's as well as being one of the best pitchers the Husky softball program has ever seen. She was also a scholar athlete in both the fall and winter seasons, and received the volleyball team's coaches award. In her senior year she set new records for strikeouts and wins in a career and in a season. She was named to the all-league and all-section teams for her work on the softball field.

Melissa Shulman

Shulman was the offensive catalyst for two different sports teams at Harrison in her senior season. In the fall she played field hockey for the Huskies and she was named to the all-league team. In spring Shulman was the lone captain of the school's lacrosse team. This year saw her extend her all time record to well over 200 goals scored. The lacrosse season ended with Shulman on all-league, all-section and all-elite teams. She also won the team's coaches award as well as being named an academic all-American.

Emily Singer

Singer was a track sensation during all three seasons, running cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track. Singer rewrote the record books in several events for the Huskies. In each season Singer was given the coach's award for her hard work and dedication. She was also all-county, all-league and a scholar athlete for each sport. During the cross country season Singer was the league and county champion, she also was named the Westchester Cross Country/ Track and Field Officials Association female athlete of the season.

Samantha Stump

Stump was the last line of defense for both the field hockey and the lacrosse teams. As both team's goalie Stump was all league and a scholar athlete. During the lacrosse season Stump was also named an academic all American. In the fall Stump was named to the all elite team. Stump was like a defensive captain for both teams, she was a verbal leader on the field and a role model to the younger members of the team.
