Sports Weekly: Huskies Send Track Elite To Penn

A look back at this week in Harrison sports.

Harrison’s track and field team sent several representatives to compete in the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania this week.

The Huskies sent two boys teams and two girls teams, as well as Nina Sarmiento who competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished 17th.

The boys 4x100 team made up of Joe Papa, Gary Castelli, Rob Merritt and Zaid Al-Doori placed 20th in a competitive field at 43.29. The boys 4x400 team came in 83rd place with a mark of 3:25.74.

On the girls side, the 4x 100 relay team came in 131st place at 52.32, while the 4x400 squad finished with a time of 4:14.16.

The Husky baseball team improved their record to 7-2 on the season with wins over Byram Hills, Yorktown and Ossining.

At Byram Hills, Harrison ace Max Bruckner held the opposition to just one run and two hits in a complete game. The Huskies got good production from middle of the lineup, led by Michael Jacobson who went 3-for-4 with a run and Bruckner who added two hits and an RBI.

Harrison slugged out their wins over Yorktown and Ossining. In their 12 - 7 win over Yorktown Michael Jacobson started the game and gave up seven runs before Brendan O’Shea came in and shut the door.

Brian Lobel led Harrison against Ossining, tossing a complete game in the 9-1 victory. In the game Jacobson scored four runs, while senior Michael Chiarella scored three.

Varsity Softball

The Huskies stayed hot at the plate this week, improving their record to 10 - 1 with another strong offensive output. Harrison sandwiched a 7 - 2 win over Pelham with 13 - 1 and 15-0 victories over Byram Hills.

Now ranked in the state’s top ten Harrison is averaging nine runs a game while giving up less than three.

Halfway through the season Harrison has jumped out to a great start thanks to a strong lineup and the near dominant pitching of Sam Angiletta

Varsity Boys Lacrosse

Harrison struggled on the offensive end of the field last week, losing at home to Horace Greeley 11- 7 on Tuesday and on the road against Fox Lane on Saturday 12 - 2. Rain on Thursday washed away a game against Byram Hills.

Against Fox Lane Harrison’s two goals were scored by Brandon Bonistall and Spencer Klein.

Varsity Girls Lacrosse

Harrison continues its slow start to the 2011 season, as the team lost all three games last week to remain winless on the season. Defense remains a problem for the Huskies, which was evident in an 18-11 loss to Byram Hills. Emily Koller scored six goals while Alex Misisco added four, but it wasn't enough to keep up with the Bobcats.

Harrison also lost 18-11 against Ossining. Misisco and Koller had hat tricks in that game while Angela Troia added two goals of her own.

The Huskies ended the week at Scarsdale on Saturday and were beaten 18-9. Troia scored another four goals for the Huskies in a losing effort.
