Sports Roundup: Softball and Baseball Teams Off to Fast Starts

A look at Harrison Husky athletics this week.

Varsity Baseball

Harrison baseball had an abbreviated week thanks to rain on Wednesday that washed away a scheduled game against Sacred Heart. When the Huskies took the field on Thursday Max Bruckner led Harrison on the mound pitching a complete game and striking out seven. The Huskies beat Tappan Zee 4-2 and Harrison got a good offensive effort from Alex Beckett who had three hits and two RBIs.

The Huskies left for Florida on Saturday and will now play three regular season games at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida.

Varsity Softball

The Husky softball team had a difficult week scheduled with games against Sleepy Hollow, Tappan Zee and a home and home scheduled with Rye. The game at Rye was postponed by poor weather, but the Huskies dominated in both the home game against Rye and against Sleepy Hollow, as the Husky offense scored a combined 29 runs in the two games.

Friday, Harrison was tested by Tappan Zee as the Huskies made several errors in the field giving the opposition an opportunity to run away with the game. But pitcher Sam Angilletta kept the game close and got some late help from her defense and offense to squeak away with an 8-7 victory to remain undefeated at 6-0.

Harrison senior shortstop Jessica Magnotta became just the second softball player in the school’s history to record her 100th career hit, she is closing in on the school’s all-time record.

Varsity Boys Tennis

Harrison’s tennis team took on crosstown rival Keio at home early in the week then traveled to battle Horace Greeley on Thursday. The boys lost both events but hopefully they can regroup quickly for the rest of the season.

Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Husky defense continues to struggle this year and last week was no different. Harrison played Rye at home and Horace Greely on the road and the Huskies lost big in both games. Emily Koller recorded a hat trick in the loss to Rye and several Huskies had multiple goals against Horace Greeley, but the defense remains a problem for Harrison early in the season.

Varsity Boys Lacrosse

Harrison fell in a rivalry game to Rye Friday night. The defense struggled as Rye won 13-5. Harrison’s Alex Acompora had two goals in the loss.

Varsity Track and Field

Nearly every member of the track and field team broke personal records or came close to it at Thursday's . The Harrison girls team came in second place of the six schools who traveled to Harrison for the competition while the boys came in first. Harrison individuals took first place in four events.
