Sports Recap: Softball Rebounds From Loss, LAX Trying to Build Momentum

A look back at this week in Harrison sports.

Varsity Baseball

The Harrison baseball team spent spring break in Florida at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex where they played three regular season games as well as several scrimmages.

The highlight of the trip was the first game of the week when the Huskies beat Bryam Hills on the strength of a Brian Lobel pitching gem. The game was played at the same stadium that the Atlanta Braves use for their spring training home every year.

Harrison lost one-run games to Rye and John Jay, but the Husky pitching staff appears to be coming together. Harrison got great pitching performances from Michael Forgione on Monday against Rye and from Max Bruckner Tuesday versus John Jay.

Timely hitting was lacking for Harrison in their two losses, which will be something to work on when the team returns to the region for games this week.

Varsity Softball

The Harrison softball team stayed home over spring break and played two official games. On Tuesday the Huskies lost 5-4 to Pearl River in a rivalry game. Harrison spotted their rivals four runs in the first inning and even though the Huskies battled back, they weren’t able to complete a comeback.

But the Huskies didn’t have much time to dwell on the defeat. One day after suffering their first loss the Huskies and pitcher Samantha Angilletta faced off against John Jay and the team rebounded nicely, winning the game 6-3. Harrison got good team offense against John Jay including centerfielder Jenna Webb who had three hits and second basemen Allyson Brabant who added two.

Varsity Boys Lacrosse

Like Harrison’s baseball team the boys lacrosse team traveled to Florida to spend their spring break in the Wide World of Sports complex at Disney World. The Husky lacrosse team enjoyed the good weather and Disney Theme parks off the field, but on the field it was a different story. Harrison took on a team from New Jersey in an official game and lost 16-4. Harrison got goals from their top scorers like Alex Acompora and Jake Marino and even though they took a tough loss, the team should benefit from their experience in Florida.

Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Huskies only had one game this week, against Corcoran. Harrison lost 16-12, dropping their record to 0-5 on the season. Both Alexandra Misisco and Angela Troia looked good in the defeat. Misisco had five goals and three assists while Troia added two scores of her own.

Varsity Track & Field

The Huskies took on Fox Lane in a dual meet earlier in the week, and both the boys and girls teams finished with wins.

The Harrison girls beat Fox Lane 81-51 and the boys defeated the Foxes 102-37. This week Harrison will take on Horace Greeley at home on Monday at 4:15 p.m. Later this week Harrison will be sending several young athletes to the Penn Relays, one of the most prestigious events in the country. The event will take place at The University Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field and will put the Huskies up against the best young athletes in the country, and beyond.

Varsity Boys Tennis

With a good portion of the team on spring break, the Husky tennis team took a week off from competition and spent their week practicing. Next week the boys have five matches against some of the best competition in the section.
