Husky Boys Take First Place at Fulton Invitational

Harrison High School hosted the annual track and field invitational Thursday afternoon.

The Harrison boys track and field team took first place overall and the girls placed second in the fourth annual Fulton Invitational track and field meet Thursday afternoon at Harrison high School. The Huskies also had four individual first place finishes.

Bronxville, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Somers and White Plains traveled to Harrison for the meet.

The Harrison girls finished in a second place tie with Bronxville, coming in behind New Rochelle. The Husky boys came in first place in a meet for the first time in four years, narrowly edging out the New Rochelle boys.

“Every single athlete on our team either set a personal record or came close to it," said Harrison coach Dominic Zanot. "I really wouldn’t be able to say that one athlete rose to the occasion, they all did.”

Both Harrison teams will look to build on their strong starts as the Huskies will send athletes to both the upcoming New York Relays and the Penn Relays. Coach Zanot hopes to see all of his athletes improve.

“We are just looking to try to score well in our league meet, county meet and sectional championship and just try and make sure Harrison track and field is a force to be reckoned with,” he said.

Thursday's meet was named for Dennis Fulton, a former coach and educator in the Harrison Central School District who is credited for virtually starting the Harrison track and field program from the ground level, laying the foundation for a lot of the success the team enjoys today.

“He took our kids to all big meets, he took them to competitions and made track important so that when Kate (Zanot) and myself became assistant coaches we were just put in a situation where it was our job to continue the success that he already established,” Dominic Zanot said. “To honor him like this is just really enjoyable.”
