Harrison's Repecki Leaves Harrison With Several Records

Chris Repecki recently graduated from Harrison High School with several records as a cross country and track star.

Harrison's mild-mannered track standout Chris Repecki took on a new role this year, not only leading the track and cross country teams while in action, but taking over as a mentor for younger athletes as well.

Repecki spent five years running varsity track for Harrison. In his time on the varsity track and field team and cross country squads, Repecki recorded a plethora of school records as an individual and as part of a team.

The recent graduate owns the indoor and outdoor 1600m and mile run, as well as the indoor and outdoor 3200m and the 5000m run. His records also include 1500m and he was a member of the 4x1600m relay and the SMR relay school record teams.

Needless to say, Repecki made his time as a Harrison athlete count. But he also proved to be a great teammate and leader in his senior year. As a rare five-year varsity contributor, he found that he had a lot of advice he could offer to the less experienced members of the team.

“In order to personally help the younger guys on the squad, I led by example, not just words,” Repecki said. “By working hard and putting in the necessary preparation on a regular basis, I taught the younger guys that with hard work and dedication one can achieve more than he expected.”

With an overabundance of athletic achievements and memories to choose from, it was difficult for Repecki to pick just one, but the track standout says a team championship this year was his favorite moment.

“Winning the Class B championships in track this past spring as a team. The team was so well rounded, with so much depth and talent in every event area,” Repecki said. “Winning that title with my team meant so much to the athletes and coaches who all worked so hard, and holding the championship plaque with my team was the perfect ending to my high school career.”

This fall Repecki will move on to Davidson College as a member of the school’s cross country and track teams. After considering schools such as Tufts, Bucknell and Wake Forest, Repecki decided Davidson was the best fit for him.

“I picked Davidson for its perfect academic and athletic match. The academics are great, with small classes and great professors,” he said. “The athletics are Division I, which is unique for such a small liberal arts school. I will be running cross country and track, so I get to participate in both my sports.”

Preseason training starts in less then a week for Repecki, but knowing the athlete's work ethic he’ll be in midseason form when he meets his teammates in Boone, NC, on Aug. 15.

Getting to participate in both sports is a rarity for a Division I athlete, although Repecki said cross country is his favorite sport, he's looking forward to staying involved with track as well.

“While I have had more success on the track, cross country has always been my favorite season. I love the challenge of the hills and natural terrain, as every course is unique and different. I also like the team aspect of cross country," he said.

Best of luck and continued success to Chris Repecki, Harrison Patch’s athlete of the week.
