Harrison’s Knox Continues Stellar Career

With a rivalry game this weekend Harrison is looking for a big effort from senior Tanner Knox.

Tanner Knox was a staple with the Harrison football team well before this season, but the team needs him now more than ever.

The Huskies asked three captains to lead their team in their senior seasons this fall. But with Brandon Bonistall sidelined with an injury and Duke Alvora suspended for a game Harrison's Tanner Knox will be the only captain to dress for this weekend's game against Eastchester.

Although the other two will be sorely missed, the Huskies still have a great player to lean on. Knox's leadership resonates with the underclassmen on the Huskies, he leads both by example and by execution on the field.

"He is by far the hardest worker on the team," says Steven Deleo, a defensive back on the team. "He works year-round lifting and training for the season and it all shows on the field."

"Tanner is the type of guy that you want to model your career after," said Harrison sophomore Charlie Credendino. "One of the hardest workers I have ever met."

Knox's off-field work ethic is seen by his teammates and coaches alike in every practice or weightlifting session. But what the fans get to see is his effort during every game for Harrison—and he hasn't disappointed. Knox has  already scored five touchdowns in two games this year.

The senior's smashmouth run game fits in perfectly with the Harrison offensive style and his intelligence makes him just as valuable on the other side of the ball. Knox has been involved in nearly every play in both games this year and he has already picked up his first interception of the year against Roosevelt.

Harrison's first two games were against contrasting offensive styles in Roosevelt's spread offense and Sleepy Hallow's run oriented attack. In both games Knox and the Husky defense stood strong holding their opponents to a combined 15 points in the first two games.

"I think the way Roosevelt played us was the hardest thing for our defense to get used to," said Knox. "Sleepy Hallow's offense is exactly what our defense is made for."

With a key game against Eastchester coming up, Knox will be playing the final regular season home game of his Harrison career. Though the Huskies will most likely be playing football in the postseason, the shorthanded Harrison team will need a big effort from Knox this weekend if they want to position themselves for a deep playoff run.

Best of luck and continued success to Tanner Knox, Harrison Patch's athlete of the week.
