Valiant Softball Splits With Misericordia

 The Top Spot:

Junior Katie Pitcher improved to 3-0 on the season, throwing a complete game in Manhattanville’s 4-2 victory over Misericordia in the second game of a double header.

Catcher Ashley Dell led the Valiant offense as she went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Pitcher, Harrison’s Brianna Scapperotti and Rye Brooke’s Alyssa Casino also scored a run in the victory.

Manhattanville’s next scheduled game is Wednesday when the Valiants will host Kean for a double-dip starting at 3 p.m.

 Valiant Women’s LAX Opens Conference Play With Win

The Manhattanville women's lacrosse team took an 11-10 lead into halftime then used a huge second half to run away with a 22-12 victory in their conference opener.

Casandra Honovich led the Valiants with eight goals, as Melissa Goncalves picked up five and Maggie Howley tacked on three.

Manhattanville’s next game will be against Saint Joseph’s at 7 p.m.

Section I All-Stars

Late last week MSG Varsity announced the Section 1 All-Stars in boy’s basketball. The four teams squared off in two games at Sleepy Hollow High School on Sunday afternoon.

Byram Hills forward Andrew Maloney took home the first game’s MVP award with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Tyler Sayre of Albertus Magnus shined in the second game with 22 points as he took home the contest’s MVP.

Remembering Bert Sugar

For years Chappaqua’s own Bert Sugar could be seen with his trademark hat and cigar on the edge of his seat at a heavyweight fight. Over the weekend boxing lost a great voice when Sugar succumbed to cardiac arrest and died at the age of 75. Sugar’s family .

CYP Tournament Continues

The CYP Basketball Tournament continues tonight in Port Chester. The first semi-final game will begin at 7:15 p.m. with the second starting at 8:30 p.m.

All games are played at Our Lady of Mercy School on Washington Street in Port Chester and admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Weekly Sports Poll:

With March in it’s final week this week’s sports poll deals with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in New Orleans. Kentucky and Louisville will play the early game on Saturday night, followed by Ohio State and Kansas.
