Jets and Giants will play tomorrow:
Twas the night before the game, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The pylons were placed by the end zone with care,
In hopes that Rex and Tom soon would be there.
The defenders were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of tackles danced in their heads.
And Mark in his green, and Eli in blue,
Had just settled their plans with their receiving crew.
When out in the city there arose some chatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to Football Night I flew like a flash,
Turned up the volume and saw Dungy’s stash.
He said, “This game will be played in rain or snow,
the defense will rule if it’s hot or five below.”
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Broadway Joe, and Simms having a beer.
With a little official, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment the ball was ready to kick.
More rapid than Vick or Brady they came,
The reff whistled, and shouted, to call the game!
"Now Jacobs! now, Osi! now, Justin and Hixson!
On, Mangold! On, McKnight! on Revis and Dixon!
Time to flip the coin, Big Blue make the call!
The coin came up heads! The Giants get the ball!"
As the captains stood staring eye to eye,
The crowd erupted like the forth of July.
So back to the benches the Jets flew,
Listening to cheers the Giants did too.
As Gang Green lined up, you could hear from the roof
Fireman Ed leading the cheer, that goof.
As Folk launched the ball, the fans turned around
There would be no return, it soared out of bounds.
Gillbride got creative, something was afoot
if the Giants lost this game their season is caput.
Eli spent all year with the team on his back,
And he looked like a pro as he dodged a sack.
In cold Coughlin’s face, his dimples how merry!
Like in Green Bay is cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a scowl,
And the plays in his hand were folded like a towel.
While Tommy was cold Rex was sweaty,
Coughlin was old and skinny and Ryan liked Spaghetti.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he screamed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly green elf,
And I laughed when I swore, he couldn’t help himself!
His defense was lacking, the offense was spread,
if Rex couldn’t stop Eli the playoffs were dead.
The first half ended, but the Jets were down,
Victor Cruz could catch, they couldn’t stop that clown.
If the D faltered Rex would look like a jerk,
The Jet defense spoke not a word, but went straight back to work.
Both coaches ripped into their teams with a whistle,
Back to the field they flew like the down of a thistle.
But as I heard them each exclaim, ‘ere they ran out of sight,
“We can do this right now, its Christmas Eve night.”
Whoever wins, whoever loses it must have been fate,
But one things for sure Bart Scott can’t wait.
One team will prevail and one team will fall,
No matter the outcome I know “Santas real ya’ll”
