All-Stars a Win Away From Section Finals

The Harrison Little League 9-10 softball all-stars will play Wappingers Falls tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Nanuet, with the winner advancing to play Thursday night in the Section 4 championship game.

The winner of the section championship advances to the state tournament in Syracuse.

On Monday, Wappingers Falls beat Harrison 7-6 in seven innings. Wappingers Falls lost Tuesday night to New City, which has not lost a game so far this summer in tournament play. The winner of tonight's game between Harrison and Wappingers Falls will have to win two games against New City in the finals to advance.

Tennis Club Sweeps Doubles League

The Rye Racquet Club women’s doubles teams earned a sweep of the Metropolitan Interclub Tennis League Flight 1 division.

The league has three divisions of women’s doubles teams and this year is the fourth since 2005 Rye has swept Flight 1. The other times were 2005, 2008 and 2010.

The Rye Racquet Club also offers instruction for younger players, as well as adults, and has a competitive juniors team that competes in United States Tennis Association tournaments.

Local Earns Promotion With Miami Dolphins

Pearl River native Brian Gaine was promoted recently to assistant general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

Gaine attended Don Bosco Prep High School in Ramsey, N.J. and attended University of Maine. He first joined an NFL front office in 1999 when he worked in the scouting department for the New York Jets. He worked for the Jets through 2004, and then moved to the Dallas Cowboys, where he was the assistant director of pro scouting for three seasons.

After the 2007 season, Gaine moved onto the Dolphins as their assistant director of player personnel. to director of player personnel.

According to MiamiDolphins.com, his promotion to assistant GM will allow him to:

Work closely with General Manager Jeff Ireland on the evaluation of players at the professional and collegiate levels as well as be responsible for administrative and scouting responsibilities in both of those areas and continue to oversee the Player Personnel Department. He will also have a more active role in the organization with Head Coach Joe Philbin and his staff, the football administration staff as well as other football operations related business.
