The Top Spot:

After beating Stepinac 10-9 last Thursday, the Huskies fell to 1-1 on the year with a 6-5 loss to Clarkstown South in overtime.

Vinny Bernardone led the Vikings with three goals as Joseph Buzzetti and Phil Maas also scored. Ryan Jelen picked the perfect time to score his first career varsity goal, finding the back of the net with minutes remaining in overtime off of at Pat Cioffi assist.

Harrison’s Jake Marino scored twice for Harrison as Dean Brancicci, Kevin Imperia and J.J. Tenner each scored once.

Both teams will play again on Tuesday as Harrison will take on Rye at 4:30 p.m. and Clarkstown South will host Byram Hills.

College Sports Notebook:

  • Manhattanville picked up a sweep over Wilkes in a double-header as senior shortstop Dan Fiorito nailed three home runs in the wins. The Valiants won game one 6-5 and won game two 10-6 in a rain-shortened contest. Fiorito is hitting .500 over the team’s first 16 games with seven home runs and 20 runs batted in.
  • Manhattanville’s junior ace Alyssa Taylor picked up two wins over the weekend as the lady Valiants swept Wilkes in a double header. Manhattanville won 1-0 in the first game and 12-3 in the second. Harrison High School alum Brianna Scapperotti had the first game’s only RBI, hitting a bloop single to score teammate Ashley Dell.
