Daily Sports Digest: Huskies Win League Title

Harrison enjoyed a successful first day back in action after the long holiday. The Husky volleyball team clinched the league title in a thrilling five-set match with Fox Lane, while Harrison won in field hockey as well as girl’s swimming.

The town continues to prepare for the Saturday showdown with Rye and today’s theme for the high school students’ spirit week is “Prep for Rye”. The student body will show their support for the Husky Football team by wearing “preppy” clothing to school.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Fox Lane @ Harrison

Score:  Harrison Won 3-2

Highlights: In what was expected to be an exciting matchup, Harrison outlasted Fox Lane 3-2. Captain Jessica Segal led the way for the Huskies with 9 kills and 37 assists. Lily Stoke controlled the net with 11 kills. The victory gives Harrison a home and home season split with the Foxes and the league title.

Sport: Girl’s Swimming

Game: Byram Hills @ Harrison

Score:  Harrison Won 53-40

Highlights: The Huskies improved to 7-2 on the year with a relatively easy victory over Byram Hills. Freshman Sarah Hodes won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Imogen Carid won the 100 breast stroke for Harrison and Haruka Mauro and Shawn Caparelli finished first and second in the 200 individual medley.

Sport: Field Hockey

Game: Ursuline @ Harrison

Score:  Harrison Won 3-0.

Highlights: The game was scoreless at halftime, but Harrison came out in the second half and found the back of the net three times against the Koalas. Eleni Pantelopoulos, Rachel Kalichman, and Michelle Loguidice picked up the goals for the Huskies and Michelle De Leo had the lone assist for Harrison. Ali Menneti pitched a shutout from goal with one save against Ursuline.

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Harrison @ New Rochelle

Score:  Harrison lost 3-2.

Highlights: Harrison has hit a bit of a slump since beating Rye in late September. The Huguenots defeated the Huskies 3-2 on the strength of Katie Grogan in goal and three different goal scorers. Riley Gallin and Alexandra Williams scored for New Rochelle while Shannon Carly picked up a goal and an assist. For Harrison Jackie Fonseca fought valiantly in goal saving 11 shots and Cassidy Cohen did her best to spark the Huskies scoring two goals. 

Today’s Schedule:

In field hockey, the Huskies will face off against Horace Greeley. The game will be at McGuillicuddy Stadium at 4:15 p.m.

In girl’s tennis, Harrison will face off against Briarcliff at 4:15 p.m. at Harrison High School.
