5 Huskies Prepare for Sections

The Top Spot:

Over the weekend the best wrestlers from across the Hudson Valley will compete in the sectional tournament.

The schools have been split up into two divisions and Harrison will be competing in Division I.

Harrison has five wrestlers competing with Joe Madia (120) seeded seventh, Gavin Menchel (126) seeded third, David Polakoff (132) seeded 12th, Max Lukaswitz (138) seeded 12th and Max McMullen (195) seeded 16th.

Maida, a junior, is 31-9 on the season and he will see North Rockland’s Jose Rodriguez in the first round. Rodriguez, a senior is 22-9 on the year.

At 27-9 Menchel is the highest seeded Husky this season, and the junior will go up against 14th seeded Brandon Badger of Arlington this weekend. The Arlington sophomore comes into the match up posting a 28-15 record.

Yesterday’s Results:

Sport: Boys Basketball

Game: Harrison vs. Fox Lane

Score: Fox Lane Won 67-39

Highlights: Harrison squared off at Fox Lane in the first round of the Dapper McDonald Basketball Classic to honor local sports fan E. Richard McDonald who died of ALS.

Will Trawick led the Foxes with 22 points and Dylan Peretz picked up 15 in the win. Harrison’s Coby Lefkowitz picked up eight points in the loss.

Sport: Girls Basketball

Game: Harrison vs. Fox Lane

Score: Fox Lane Won 51-45

Highlights: Harrison celebrated their six seniors before the game and the score was close most of the way thanks to timely outside shooting from Harrison’s Jenna Webb. Fox Lane was too strong down the stretch though, hitting enough late free throws to edge the Huskies.

Sport: Boys Basketball

Game: Rye Neck vs. Keio

Score: Rye Neck Won 72-54

Highlights: Rye Neck’s Matt Franks led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds as Brendan Crowley picked up 17 in the win.

Sport: Girls Basketball

Game: Rye Neck vs. Keio

Score: Rye Neck Won 34-20

Highlights: Rye Neck’s Paige O’Donnell scored 12 points and Kirstin Tamuuci picked up eight in the win. Keio’s Sae Toymura had nine in the loss.

Today’s Schedule:

In boys basketball, Harrison will host Port Chester in the Dapper McDonald Classic’s consolation game at 4:30 p.m. 

In ice hockey, Horace Greeley will host Rye Town/Harrison at Brewster Ice Rink at 3:30 p.m.

Other Sports News:

The Harrison bowling team just finished a fantastic year and the Huskies won their league.

Senior Joe Albanese and Freshman Mike Derenzis will both be competing in the section tournament.
