The Saints John & Paul CYO JV team won its first Westchester/Putnam County championship in 10 years.

The team was made up of only ninth graders, and according to Head Coach Craig Harrigan, it’s the first team in 25 years to win the JV division, open to ninth and 10th graders, with only students from ninth grade.

SJP dropped its first game of the season to Annunciation of Crestwood, and followed with a 15-game winning streak. This set up a rematch with an unbeaten Annunciation in the title game.

According to Harrigan, his team trailed by seven with about eight minutes to go when his captains, Patrick Murray and Dean DeLucia, scored 15 points and forced seven turnovers in the final period to lead SJP to the 52-46 win. Garret Noak, who Harrigan said missed 10 games this year with an injury, chipped in six points in the final two minutes to seal the win.
