Al-Doori Qualifies For State Track Finals

Zaid Al-Doori was the only Harrison qualifier for the NYSPHSAA – New York State meet — March 5 at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Harrison senior Zaid Al-Doori qualified for the New York State track finals with a second-place finish in the 300-meter dash Saturday at the Section 1 State Qualifier at The Armory in Manhattan.

Al-Doori edged Mount Vernon's Darien Burnside by less than a second for the automatic bid. Burnside also advanced by beating the qualification time for a third place finisher.

First and second place finishers in individual events qualified for the NYSPHSAA – New York State Final — at Cornel University in Ithica on March 5. Third place finishers beating a pre-determined qualifying time also advance to the finals. A first place finish was needed to qualify for relay events.

Gary Castelli narrowly missed being the second Harrison athlete to qualify with his third place finish in the boys long jump. He missed the qualifying by less than four inches. Christopher Repecki finished seconds away from qualifying in the 3,200 meter run. His 9:49.35 finish was less than 13 seconds from what he needed to qualify for the state meet.

The Harrison 4X200 boys relay team missed qualifying by a fraction of a second, falling just short of Mount Vernon's time of 1:31.87.

The Harrison girls had no state qualifiers. Ashley DelliPaoli had the top finish when she placed seventh in the girls 600 meter dash finals.
