Pelham Schools Chief Hired to Southern Westchester BOCES Post

Dennis Lauro, who is leaving his position as the superintendent of Pelham schools at the end of the year, was chosen to head Southern Westchester BOCES' Lower Hudson Regional Information Center last week.

The Southern Westchester BOCES has announced that Dennis Lauro, who at the end of the year, will become the executive director of the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center.

The regional center is a non-profit consortium that provides educational and administrative technology services to 62 school districts in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties. It is one of seven centers comprising Southern Westchester BOCES and one 12 Regional Information Centers in New York State. The regional center has an operating budget of more than $40 million and employs about 175 information technology professional districts at its member school districts and its headquarters in Elmsford.

The Southern Westchester BOCES Board of Education approved Lauro’s appointment on Thursday. Lauro will replace James O’Brien, who retired from the position of executive director of the regional center in October.

"With Dr. Lauro’s experience in our region, he brings credibility and a knowledge base that will allow him to quickly take the reins of one of the most important businesses at our BOCES," Sandra Simpson, chief operating officer of Southern Westchester BOCES,  said in a statement.  "Dr. Lauro has a strong technology and business background that made him stand out among a highly competitive candidate pool. I am thrilled he is joining our team."

Lauro has been with Pelham schools for 16 years and has been the district’s superintendent since 1996.

The Pelham school board announced earlier this month until Lauro’s replacement is found. If Wilson’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he served as Pelham’s school superintendent prior to Lauro’s appointment in 2008.
