Long Island University Introduces Renamed Campus in Purchase

Long Island University hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate an official name change for the school's Hudson Valley campuses.

Long Island University is celebrating a merger between its Hudson Valley campuses, including a name change to its branch located on the grounds of SUNY Purchase.

Starting this month the campus in Purchase as well as another satalite campus in Rockland County have been renamed Long Island University's Hudson Graduate Centers at Rockland and Westchester. School officials say the merger will offer more convenience to students at the school as they will have access to campuses on both sides of the Hudson River.

Sylvia Blake, dean and operating officer of the graduate campuses, said in a statement that students will be able to take classes at both locations, creating more options for students taking any of the 70 academic programs offered at both schools.

"In combining the resources of the two campuses, the sum is greater than its parts,” stated Blake, adding, “The name change is in keeping with the services we are providing to the region as a whole and Westchester and Rockland communities in particular.”

Although some classes will only be available at one campus or another, school officials said the merger will create more scholarship funding, a larger alumni base and a larger professional network.
