HHS Students and Teachers Team Up For a Cause

Harrison teachers and students will participate in the fifth annual 'Voices Heard' concert on Saturday, Dec. 3, with all benefits going toward Autism Speaks.

'Voices Heard' is returning to Harrison High School this weekend.

Several Harrison organizations have joined together to organize the fifth annual concert to be held Saturday at the Harrison Performing Arts Center. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. and feature teachers, students and other performers from the area.

The concert will benefit Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization. Cris Spinner, a teacher at L.M.K. Middle School, helped organize the event with the help of the Harrison High School PTA.

Support for the event comes from various parts of the community, from students and parents to the community at large.

“It is so exciting to have everyone involved,” said Spinner. “At the high school, students involved in our IB and GO programs are designing flyers, programs and working with town business to sponsor the show.”

Spinner will perform at the concert along with Harrison Avenue School teachers Kristina-Marie Cascone, Regina Singel and Clancy Tager. Some of Spinner's friends and colleagues will also take to the stage along with the Harrison High School Chorus and other student performers.

An outspoken supporter for Autism Speaks, Spinner has helped raise autism awareness in Harrison for several years. Her son, a student at Harrison High School, is autistic and Spinner says she is thankful for the support she has received from the community over the years, especially with organizing this event.

“Many of our teachers are lending their talents to the concert, as well as members of the Harrison High School Chorus," Spinner said. "The tech crew volunteers their time to run the HPAC and the HHS Color Guard along with members of the band, orchestra and dance programs will be contributing."

The Harrison High School PTA will coordinate donated refreshments and school custodians donate their time as well.

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the amazing support of our Harrison community,” Spinner said.

The recommended donation for entrance to the show is $20 for adults.
