Harrison Educational Foundation Seeks Support

Local resident, mom and current Chair of HEF, Laurie Fried is kicking off the foundation's annual fundraising event on Oct. 17.

The Harrison Educational Foundation (HEF) is holding its annual fundraising event at Westchester Country Club on Oct. 17.

Starting at 10 a.m., the event will consist of a breakfast, a golf outing, a cocktail hour, reception dinner and auction. This year the reception will be honoring one of the district’s parents, Ellen Kaidanow, for her involvement in the district for more than 15 years and support of HEF since its inception.

Current HEF Chairperson Laurie Fried said, “100 percent of our funds go back to the six schools in the Harrison Central School District.”

The private fund to support curriculum enrichment programs has made it possible for organizations in the district to receive money for various programs and renovations that would otherwise go unfunded.

In the past, HEF has provided grants for the renovation of the Harrison Performing Arts Center and the construction of the Sirius Black Box Theater at Harrison High School. HEF, founded in 1994, “seeks to achieve its goals by providing opportunities for creative teaching and learning experiences... by encouraging community and district partnerships.”

Fried said recently the HEF supported a grant for the Lincoln Center Institute, where there is a program for all third graders at all four of Harrison's elementary schools. The money has also gone to making sure that all kindergarten students get backpacks for the early reading program and supporting Law Day at Harrison High School.

“We try to reach every child in the district,” said Fried. “The foundation looks to support curriculum enrichment grants in all six schools in our district and to help Harrison be a district of distinction.”

If you are interested, as a teacher or organization, in receiving grant money for educational programs in the Harrison area the grant process begins in the spring.
