Anonymous Donor Gifts Manhattanville $5 Million

The gift is the largest donation in the college's history.

An anonymous donor has made an unrestricted $5 million donation to .

The money, which will be donated over three years, is the biggest donation the college has ever accepted, said school officials. The donation will be used to benefit the school's "highest priority strategic initiates", a school statement read.

"We are delighted to receive this wonderful gift that will help Manhattanville achieve its mission, ‘to educate students to be ethical and socially-responsible leaders in a global community,” Interim President Jon C. Strauss said in a statement.

A school statement indicated that at least a portion of the money received will be placed in a fund for the school's next permanent president, when selected. Strauss has served as the school's interim president since this spring.

It has been a busy few months for Manhattanville, the school's board of trustees recently approved a $4.5 million capitol improvement plan. The first phase of that plan consists of $2.75 million worth of renovations to residential and academic buildings. The next phase will begin next summer.

"This gift will help ensure that Manhattanville remains competitive in a rapidly changing world," Strauss stated.
