90% of Harrison Teams Receive Scholar Athlete Recognition

More Harrison varsity sports teams have met New York state's standard as scholar athlete teams in each of the last three years, the district announced Monday.

The school district recognized seven of its varsity spring teams for making the cut this season. In total, 26 of the school's 29 varsity programs met the state requirement this year (90 percent).

That number climbed from 24 teams in 2010-11 and 21 teams in 2009-10.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) sponsors the award and requires a specific number of players on each team to maintain a grade point average above 90 percent for a team to be recognized.
