Purchase College Journalism Student Covered Edney's Buzzer Beater
Journalism student at Purchase College helped cover the now-famous 55-foot buzzer beater by New Rochelle High School's Khalil Edney.
Jordan Griffith, a senior journalism student at Purchase College, was covering the Section I Class AA final basketball game last Sunday in which the now-famous 55-foot buzzer beating basket by New Rochelle High School's Khalil Edney ensured their 61–60 victory over Mount Vernon High School. He helped the video go viral.
Griffith is a reporter for MSG Varsity and covers high school sports in the Hudson Valley. He was on the team covering the game and helped to edit, post, and spread the video, resulting in national news coverage including ESPN, Good Morning America, and the New York Times to name a few.
Coincidentally, journalism alumnus Mike Zacchio '12, who works part-time for LoHud, also happened to be in the audience at the Westchester County Center. He arrived early for his assignment—to cover the AA championship girls basketball game between Ossining and Our Lady of Lourdes to follow. He caught the action on his iPhone and the Journal News reporter covering the New Rochelle/Mount Vernon game, Josh Thomson, helped tweet the video.
