White Plains Beginning Storm Preparations

White Plains is bracing for a powerful storm that could hit the region early next week.

The City of White Plains is making early preparations for a powerful storm that could bring strong winds and rain to the area early next week.

Sandy, a Category 2 hurricane, already left behind damage in Jamaica and Cuba and is on a path that could eventually bring it to the Northeast late Monday, according to WeatherBug Sr. Meteorologist, James West.

In preparation, White Plains public works employees are already out clearing storm drains and catch basins to mitigate potential flooding, according to a statement from Mayor Thomas Roach's office. The statement also urged residents to not pile leaves near the street, as they could clog these drains and lead to flooding.

The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook, stating that there is "increasing confidence that the Tr-State area will feel the impacts of a major coastal storm late this weekend into early next week".

Residents are urged to monitor weather predictions during the days to come.

They need to drain the swamp and clean out the drainage ditch behind the Cloverdale Ave house or we will be flooded again.

Spoke to the Mayor yesterday about the situation behind the houses on Cloverdale. He assured me that the county has taken care of cleaning out the drainage ditch. Let's hope for the best. Good luck on your end and everyone else on Cloverdale.

That's good to hear. It's sounding more and more like this is going to be something significant, so hopefully these things are taken care of over the weekend.

Good luck Nancy!! As for the gardeners blowing leaves into the streets for piles? WHY AREN'T WE TICKETING THESE IDIOTS? Even Bellantoni, who lives on Hotel Drive has his guys blow the crap into the streets, into piles. The city just spent the better part of a day cleaning the area in the Gedney Farms area (THANK YOU!!!!!!!!) including having the street sweeper go up and down. So what do the gardening clowns do? blow the leaves back onto the streets, into piles, right on top of the drains. Anyone want to do something, LIKE ENFORCE THE LAW?????????? nahhhh, didn't think so. And you really want to put FASNY here with these tiny drains? madness, utter madness...... OT: VOTE ROMNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
