If you haven't signed up yet for Harrison's email and robocall alert system, do it now, recommends Mayor Ron Belmont.

It was during Hurricane Sandy that the system proved its usefulness, as town officials updated residents every day on the extent of damage and the progress of repairs.

"Many people did not have power," he said. "But I could get to them if their cell phones were charged or they had land lines."

At the time Sandy hit, only a small percentage of town residents had signed up for the service. Then and since the numbers have been growing, Belmont said.

That's why in this spring's State of the Town Address he reminded residents who haven't signed up yet to do so.
