There are only a few people in a town Harrison's size who are so well known the use of a last name becomes a waste of time. Albert Mazzullo, who retired this week after decades with the Harrison Sanitation Department, is one of those people.
"He's one of the true characters of Harrison who, basically, everyone knows by his first name—similar to Madonna," joked Harrison Department of Public Works Commissioner Anthony Robinson. "You say Albert, basically everyone knows who Albert is."
The Harrison Town Board accepted Mazzullo's retirement last week, but took a moment to wish the dedicated employee luck first.
"Albert is a kind and gentle soul with a really good heart and we're really going to miss him," said Robinson.
The board also accepted the resignation of Alfred Fiorelli, who served for 27 years on the town's architectural review board.
"I served with Fred for many years," said Councilman Fred Sciliano. "It was a pleasure."
