New Faces in Important Places

Harrison's newest town officials make the move into public office.

The mayor's office was empty for most of Ron Belmont's first day on the job.

That’s not to say the new mayor/supervisor wasn’t working, routine maintenance left Belmont without a desk, computer and even an office phone for most of the day. The office itself was being painted and with all the commotion there wasn't much room in the office for regular use anyway.

But Harrison's newest leader said he still made the most of his first day.

"It fits my personality because I love bouncing around," said Belmont, who spent the day meeting with department heads all over town. “It’s gone very well.”

Belmont has worked with most of the town's leaders before during his 36 years with the Harrison Recreation Department, so he wasn't necessarily going out to meet everyone, just visiting and learning more about each individual town entity.

"It's been very busy," Belmont said. "If I was a student today, I would probably have more letters to my name than I could shake a stick at."

There is a new face in Harrison court as well, but Town/Village Justice Marc Lust presided over court Tuesday morning, first-term justice Nelson Canter is expected to make his first appearance behind the bench next week.

Town Clerk Jackie Greer said her first day on the job was busy, as residents continue to file for 2012 parking permits. She was also updating the town website and cable channel to reflect the new officers .

Although Greer had spent the last three weeks getting acquainted with the position, she said it was good to officially get started.

"It's exciting and I'm ready for some new challenges," said Greer.
