Karen Magee, Harrison's Teachers Union Chief, to Head State Teachers Union

Harrison teachers' union president Karen Magee was elected to the top spot at the New York State teachers' union over the weekend, the first woman to hold the presidency, according to the New York Daily News.

Magee has headed up the Harrison group for more than a decade, and at the state union she replaces Richard Iannuzzi, who was voted out after nine years.

A veteran special education and elementary school teacher, Magee said she is ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work.

“Our team stands for change and our work begins now,” she told the Daily News.
