Harrison Republicans Announce Slate for Nov. 5th Election

Endorsed for re-election, Mayor Belmont surprised that former Mayor Joan Walsh intends to run again. Describes her term as "fraught with scandal."

Harrison's Republican Party has announced its slate for the upcoming Nov. 5th 2013 local elections.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Republicans announced their endorsement in the re-election of Mayor/Supervisor Ronald Belmont, Councilman/Trustee Joseph Cannella, Councilwoman/Trustee Marlane Amelio, Town Clerk Jackie Greer and Receiver of Taxes Nancy Briotte-Masi.

Party Chairman Bob Amelio said in the release that "under the leadership of Ron Belmont, Harrison has begun a positive journey back to civility, professionalism, and respectability."

Mayor Belmont, no stranger to campaigning, listed in the release several accomplishments ranging from the current board keeping tax increases low while adding police officers, maintaining infrastructure, lowering of bonding costs, and cooperation of citizen organizations with the Town.

Mayor Belmont said in the release that the announcement of former Mayor Joan Walsh's intention to run for Mayor, "was a surprise considering her term as Mayor was fraught with scandal after scandal" and that Ms. Walsh's last campaign was replete with non-truths and a complete lack of integrity.

Mayor Belmont, according to the release, praised his teammates for their hard work and dedication to the residents of Harrison.
