Cuomo Campaign, Democrats Create 'Women's Equality' Ballot Line

If successful in landing the line on the ballot in the fall, Cuomo would have four ballot lines, Democratic, Working Families, Independence and Women's Equality.

Republican gubernatorial challenger Rob Astorino has his own Stop Common Core ballot line, and now Democratic incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Democratic leaders have created an election ballot line, too.

Cuomo's campaign is part of an effort to create a Women's Equality Party ballot line, which supports several women's issues, such as stopping domestic violence and harder crack downs on human trafficking, according to WPTZ-TV.

Kathy Hochul, who is running for Lt. governor with Cuomo, made the announcement of the party during an election event this week.

The New York Post says the move signals Cuomo's attempt to reach out to female voters, but Time Warner News' NYStateofPolitics.com website says Astorino and Democrat Zephyr Teachout, the Fordham professor challenging Cuomo to a primary, both blasted the move as a "cynical ploy."

Cuomo had a commanding lead in a recent poll, and also has a big advantage in fundraising.
