UPDATE: Clarkstown Officials Will Inform Residents Of Impact Of Rockland Deficit

Updates now added to regular board agendas beginning Tuesday.

 

Prior to the start of the Tuesday, June 19 Clarkstown Town Board meeting at 8 p.m., Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack, and board members will update residents on how Rockland County’s financial condition and cuts will affect Clarkstown. Gromack announced today that the information will be provided on an ongoing monthly basis.

"Each day we see more and more of the County shifting their costs to the Towns," said Gromack.  "It is unacceptable for the County to force the Towns to pay for their expenses while they continue to collect all the revenue.  Instead of fixing their problems, they shift their problems.  The County needs to stop coming up with ways to tax the residents of Rockland and come up with real solutions to fix County government."

Originally Tuesday’s agenda included a Public Hearing on a proposed local law to consolidate the town mechanics. The initial agenda posted on the town website contained inaccurate information which stated that the public hearing was being withdrawn. A correction was made and the hearing on “A Local Law to Transfer the Function of Highway Mechanics
 and Consolidating all Town Mechanics under the Town Garage Department” remains on the agenda.  The was discussed at length during the town board’s workshop session last week. 

Several resolutions will be voted on by the board:

  • Creation of a part-time constituent services assistant in the Highway Department as requested by the superintendent of highways
  • Promotion of Joseph M. Dwyer of New City to police sergeant at an annual salary of $147,184 effective July 2
  • Appointment of Adam C. Kone of Nanuet to police officer at an annual salary of $69,537 effective June 1
  • Re-establishing a committee to recognize commercial property owners or operators who maintain exemplary properties.
  • Authorizing the town to engage the legal and consulting services of Daniel P. Duthrie, Esq. for the potential upgrade of the town’s street lighting system for a fee not to exceed $37,500
  • Authorizing the director of environmental control to retain the services of a contractor to perform improvements to the drainage system on North Park Avenue in Nanuet.

The board will vote on holding a Public Hearing on July 24 at 8 p.m. on the proposal for “A Local Law amending Chapter 290 (Zoning) of the Local Laws of the Town of Clarkstown with respect to.”

Bid awards will be voted on: 

  • 2012 Program
  • 2012 Concrete Curb and Sidewalk Replacement Program
  • Three 2013 Salt Spreading Dump Bodies
  • Lowerre Place detention pond improvements/208 Water’s Edge drainage channel improvements.

 The board may consider tentative resolutions to vote on bonds authorizing funds for truck bodies and drainage project at Lowerre Place. The meeting takes place in the first floor auditorium at town hall in New City.
