Armed Robbers Steal Cash, Jewelry, From Woman on Purdy Street

The robbery occurred Thursday afternoon.

Harrison Police are searching for two men they say used a handgun to steal cash and jewelry from a woman as she approached her car on Purdy Street Thursday afternoon.

The woman was leaving Chase bank, which is located at 275 Halstead Ave. when the robbery took place. Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini said the robbers used a handgun to steal cash and jewelry before fleeing the scene.

Police are currently searching for the two men. One fled in the direction of the Harrison train station while the other fled down Purdy Street.

Marraccini said he does not know the exact time the robbery took place and currently has no description of the robbers.

Police are currently surrounding a green sedan, which belongs to the victim.

“We don’t have any details. We’re looking for anything out of the ordinary," Marraccini said. "Anything that doesn’t fit.” 

Purdy Street is currently closed at the Halstead Avenue intersection while police investigate. A police mobile command unit is parked at the scene and authorities are canvassing the surrounding neighborhoods.

The Osborn School in Rye was placed under lockdown as a precaution. 

"There is no imminent danger—this is purely a precautionary measure. We expect the lockdown to be lifted by 1:15 p.m," Rye Police said in a statement.

At about 1:50 p.m. a man who owns a store on Purdy Street approached police claiming his store's security system may have recorded an area near the incident. Police are in the process of obtaining and viewing a copy of the tape.

Police confirm that there are no suspects in custody and the investigation is continuing.
