West Harrison Man Pleads Guilty to Embezzling $625,000

James GLover, 54, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for his roll in a Connecticut embezzlement scheme.

A West Harrison man faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $1.25 million fine after admitting that he embezzled $625,000 through a phony bank account in New Jersey from his Stamford, CT-based company.

On Wednesday in Hartford, CT, James Glover, 54, of 4 Burns Road, West Harrison, waived his right to an indictment and pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of money obtained by fraud stemming from an embezzlement scheme.

Authorities believe Glover caused nine separate fraudulent fund transfers totaling the $625,000 while serving as managing director of settlements and reconciliations for a financial services company in Stamford, CT. The money was moved into a New Jersey bank account that was made to look like it belonged to a customer receiving funds from the company, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

A statement from the U.S Attorney's Office said Glover accessed the account and used the money for personal expenses.

Through the guilty plea Glover admitted that he took the funds during a one-year span from January 2009 to January 2010, when he was confronted by his employer. The United States Secret Service had worked with the employer to investigate the case, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Since then Glover has refunded the money, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

United States District Judge Robert N. Chatigny will sentence Glover on September 8, 2011. The case is being prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Richard J. Schechter.
