Water Main Break Causes Traffic Issues

A water main breakand gas line leak occurred late in the morning Wednesday at the intersection of Halstead Ave. and Harrison Ave.

According to D. Joy Faber, a spokeswoman for ConEdison, the break occurred this morning when a construction crew was excavating in the area to replace the gas main.

William Nardozzi, safety officer with the Harrison Fire Department said the department worked to make sure no leaked gas got into any of the surrounding buildings, but there were no reported problems and no evacuations.

"Everything checked out ok," he said.

Traffic was being diverted away from the water-main location and crews were working to repair the damage at noon
