Suspicious Object Shuts Down Entrance to WC Airport
The object turned out to be a pesticide. Flights were not affected.
A suspicious object spotted a half-mile from the Westchester County Airport prompted a response from the county's bomb squad Tuesday morning.
At about 11:49 a.m. two women leaving the airport reported an object that looked like a hand grenade along the side of Airport Road, according to a statement from the county.
The object turned out to be a pesticide grenade.

Westchester County Police closed the airport's main entryway just beyond the Rye Lake intersection for about two hours. A bomb squad was sent in to clear the scene.
"I want to thank the two women for their vigilance,” Westchester Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth said in a statement. “This incident turned out to be a false alarm, but this kind of reaction is how we keep the public safe.”
