Debris was scattered near the overturned vehicle as it laid on its side about an hour after the accident. The van had several broken windows and was between Interstate 287 and Westchester Avenue. The scene was cleared and all lanes were open on both roads by 8:30 a.m.

Members of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene Monday morning. Police have not released the names of those involved in the crash because some family members have yet to be identified.

Traffic was backed up for several miles in the westbound lanes of Interstate 287 and was slowed in the eastbound direction for most of the morning rush hour.
