Police: Driver Accused Of Drug Possession

State troopers smelled marijuana as car went by scene of auto accident.

A Connecticut man was charged with possession of 4.7 grams of marijuana early this morning after he was stopped by state troopers who were diverting traffic around an auto accident on I-684 in Harrison, according to State Police.

Police said Renato Valderrama, 29, of Waterbury, CT, was stopped at about 1 a.m. when troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from his car as he was going around the accident scene. Police said they arrested Valderrama after an investigation uncovered the marijuana.

Valderrama was accused of fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and was released pending an Aug. 23 hearing in Harrison Town Court.
