Police Beef Up Patrol Near Train Station

After an armed robbery last week, and several similar incidents reported earlier this month in surrounding communities, police are urging Harrison commuters to use caution.

Extra police patrols have been setup near the Harrison Train Station this week, as police continue to investigate an armed robbery that took place last week a few blocks from the platform.

Several police agencies are currently working together in the search for a man police believe has committed armed robberies in Harrison, Mamaroneck and Pelham over the last month. Police say it is possible the suspect commuters leaving Sound Shore train stations during that time.

Harrison Police said Monday afternoon that although there have been no arrests in the case so far, the case remains a priority. Police Chief Anthony Marraccini said he is encouraged by the $2,500 reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest.

"We've posted rewards before and they have been beneficial for us in crime stopping in the past," the chief said.

Harrison Police have posted reward flyers around town over the last few days and Marraccini said police have also started posting them in the Bronx, where police now believe the suspect may have come from.

Harrison Police have also handed out hundreds of flyers locally, urging commuters to be careful and aware of their surroundings.

"Anybody out there nowadays needs to be conscious of their surroundings," Marraccini said. "Be alert as a commuter and in every day life."

The chief added that he doesn't want people living in fear, but said, "a little extra caution can't hurt."

During the incident Thursday,  at about 9 p.m. The victim was attacked as he crossed the I-95 overpass over South Road on his way home. A similar incident took place just an hour earlier in Mamaroneck, police say.

Police have indicated that the incidents last week are likely tied to three previous robberies in  and another in .

The suspect is described as being as 5'10" and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. Anyone with information about these robberies is urged to call Harrison Police at (914)-967-5111.
