McMinn Elected New Fire Chief

Exiting chief McFadden called his term "wonderful"; looks forward to more service in the volunteer department.

The Port Chester Fire Department elected lifelong Port Chester resident Kevin McMinn its new fire chief. McMinn, 55, begins his role after the New Year.

McMinn replaces Kevin McFadden, who called his two years of service as fire chief, "wonderful," and said he was very happy to continue his work as a volunteer firefighter for Port Chester.

"You don't quit," said McFadden. "You don't run away when you're done with chief. You're in for the long haul.

McMinn has served four years as assistant chief and spent nearly 30 years in the volunteer department. "It's something I've always worked for," he said of becoming chief. McMinn also hopes to grow the volunteer base and retain current volunteers.

A former mechanic in the operating engineers union, the new chief now works in Greenwich, CT as a heavy duty mechanic.

Edward Quinn joins McMinn as first assistant, and Michael DeVittorio is second assistant.
