Massive Flames Erupt During Nyack Gas Fire

Firefighter fight 20-foot tall flames in sweltering heat

A massive fire began at approximately 4:30 p.m. on North Broadway in Nyack, and may have been caused by construction workers striking a gas line.

Firefighters have combated the blaze for nearly an hour in the sweltering heat. Fire authorities are aiming hoses from several directions at the blaze, which has not gone down in size since it’s start.

Emergency workers are escorting on-lookers away from scene. Authorities have not commented on potential injuries yet.

Near the fire, the temperature is soaring to well over 100-degrees.

Police have closed off North Broadway starting at Main Street. Hundreds of O&R customers are reporting outages.
