A Harrison resident was robbed at gunpoint while leaving the Harrison Train Station just after midnight Tuesday, police say.
Police say the man was approached from behind by an armed black male wearing dark clothes and a ski mask on Harrison Avenue near the Park Avenue intersection. The robber showed a dark colored handgun and took a cell phone, briefcase and cash, police say.
The victim was not injured and was able to call police after the incident.
Police are working with surrounding jurisdictions to see if this robbery has any connection with a string of similar incidents in Harrison, New Rochelle, Mammaroneck and Pelham, said Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini.
"We haven't been able to establish a firm connection at this time, but we are working on the case as we speak," said Marraccini.
Money is tight, unemployment is off the charts and people are desperate. We'll never know the reason for these muggings: thank God this person was not hurt. Hopefully, there will be a manageable way to prevent this from happening again. Please post any viable suggestions.
Don't say the budget can't afford it. What is a life worth?
Perhaps people be more cognizant of their personal safety. Instead of walking home alone at midnight-either take a Taxi-don't know if they run that late, pay for a one day permit at the train station (it is 3 or 4 for the day) or have someone pick you up. Or to people who take the train and drive - you see the same people on the train every day walking to and from -you stand next to them on the platform day in and day out - you know these people - you may not know them personally but you know their face and that they are your neighbor and vice versa, why not be a neighbor and offer the person walking a ride home. 8:45 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 It's illegal to send an officer out on the street before he or she finishes the academy. They made the new hires, but until they are trained there isn't much anyone can do to speed up that process. That is incorrect because a Person can be hiredas a Police Officer and put onto the street prior to going to the police academy as long as the Police Department teaches Article 35 ( use of Force) and some NYS Penal law. But the new hiree must complete the Academy within his 1st year as a Police Officer!
